Thanks Paul. I've been seeing some photos of this species and in the majority of them the fly has brownish hairs in the thorax. Is this species very variable? What do you see that points you to this species? |

They are rather variable, yes, though mostly in the extent of the markings on the abdomen. The shape of the markings on the face (frontal spots and facial spots merged, exteding over the antennae), the colour of the tibiae (partly darkened) en the largely dark scutellum rule out virtually all other species.
