Another amazing fly from Western Australia takeN by Jean Hort. IDed by Shaun Winterton as Agapophytus annamariae. Shaun told: "This is the first time that this species has been photographed alive. As with related species, males form leks on tree trunks and apparently compete for position in the lek for the attention of passing females. There are excellent mimics of pompilid wasps, which are also usually walking around on the same tree." and "This is one of the largest therevids. You were very close, but the species is actually Agapophytus annamariae Winterton & Irwin. This is an endemic to South and Western Australia" Shaun also took a phto of a very close fly A. pallidicornis and it can be found here: "http://www.flickr...2923651761/"

What a beauty. This specimen is not looking like the Thereva's I know. Quite remarkable.
