Hello! Too bad weather outside, so I went after flies in the kitchen (northwest Germany). There where Drosophilidae, Phoridae, Sciaridae and several of these Calyptrata, I suppose to be Fannia sp.. But they don't look like the usual F. canicularis, they are mostly only 4-4.5 mm long and even the males lack orange markings.

Hi! Is it worth one more try? Can somebody at least confirm the family? Thanks in advance! Two further Fanniidae(?) posts from the same day: http://www.dipter...d_id=35002 http://www.dipter...d_id=35003 Best regards, Jürgen -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Juergen Peters Borgholzhausen, Germany WWW: http://insektenfo... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= |

This male seems to be Fannia canicularis. I can see the yellow marks on abdomen. The females are Fannia.

Hello, Stephane! Stephane Lebrun wrote: This male seems to be Fannia canicularis. I can see the yellow marks on abdomen. The females are Fannia. Thank you very much. I was not sure about the yellow markings, seemed to me more light grey. I knew them only very more distinct in F. canicularis males, like in the one below.
