I requested Nina Krivosheina, she wrote chapter Odiniidae in Fauna of Russain Far East including this species, I hope she will confirm it, but I'm 98% sure as orientalis is the only Asian species of Traginops (= goat eye)

Paul, at my opinion - subspecies are the toys for Lepidopterologists, for example, they have nothing else to do. But Diptera is endless field so far, to think about such a rubbish

I know, but in the past subspecies have been described only to be recognised as valid species later.

I doubt that Traginops orientalis spp. naganensis Kato, 1952 will grow up to valid species: same fly in Russian Far East and on Java Isl., but different in Japan, that seems doubtful, doesn't it?

1. Anterior tarsi black-brown. Posterior metatarsus black-brown except base and apex. Frons yellow, orbita silvery. Occiput silvery with brown median spot. Scutum gray with brown spots. Femora black, dusted grey with yellow apex. Halter yellow……………………..T.orientalis orientalis - Tarsi brown-yellow ……. T.orientalis naganensis Wing pattern is very similar, but femora not black and on the figure T. orientalis has 1 facial bristle only and on the photo – 2. |
