Hello!

Is it possible to give at least a genus for this? This was inside at night on 28th October, near Lincoln UK.

I got a male the previous night which might be the same species, posting that separately.

Thanks to Patrycja, this is not Ceratopogonidae.

Can anyone say which family it belongs to? I am thinking a subfamily of Chironomidae?

Looks like a chironomid to me, but can't place it in a subfamily at the moment.

The hairy wings put me off too!

The closest I have found is Diamesinae..

I think it is Orthocladiinae, which has several genera with hairy wings. Diamesinae would have an M-Cu crossvein (often very faint) except in a few African species.
