Hi Jorge, Neither Tephritidae nor Lauxaniidae. This fly belongs to the family Opomyzidae. It is a specimen of the genus Geomyza. It is difficult to be sure about which species it is. I know that Geomyza tripunctata often has a rather reddish thorax in southern Europe, so that might be a candidate, but it could also be Geomyza narthsukae. The genitalia should be studied for a positive identification. Jan Willem |

I will show you 2 links of google.maps.es http://tinyurl.co... - find first V?lega (near center - more to right) and then "Rocadas de Vilarinho" - it was there where I found the fly. It is about 35 km South of Oporto. Zoom out and you will find Oporto very near to North  More precisely I found Opomyzidae fly in this zone: http://tinyurl.co... Nikita I suppose that you wanted location. But, here goes the info you really want: Medium-size (height in the same level of knees) and long plant. The leaves where I found the fly were Allium sp (it grew up spontaneously). Sea about 5 km - so wet climate. The local is very sunny and sometimes very windy. Very near and around there are thousands of Zea mays (in this moment it could reach about 2-3 m). Does it help? If you want more info, let me know! Edited by jorgemotalmeida on 18-09-2006 20:31 |
