Hello friends,

I have a pretty female Empis from Istria, which belongs obviously to E. nitidiventris or E. pseudomalleola. Weber in the Fauna Hungariae is not too clear about the difference.
The legs are clearly brownish, so pseudomalleola? Yet this species is rather alpine, so then rather nitidiventris?

I would like to have the good description of both species. Help will be so much appreciated.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
