I used Scudder & Cannings (2006) to identify this fly as Carnus (Carnidae), because it lacks abdominal sternites. However, some similar pictures on Bugguide are filed under Drosophilidae, so now i am a bit confused about the exact identity... Size is 3 mm in length. Any help is appreciated! It looks like a species of Drosophila to me.
