Today, my garden, Kapellen, Belgium. I noticed this one while it was hanging on a leaf and shaking its whole body. Tipulidae or something else? Possible to go further? Thanks in advance!

Take a closer look at the antennae. Very caracteristic. Each flagellomere is triangular or cone-shaped. This points in the direction of Rhipidia. At this time of year a good choice would be Rhipidia maculata. I have seen quite a few in Denmark this autumn. But there might be other possible Rhipidia sp. in Belgium! Regards, Walther |

Great, Walther! An online checklist for Belgium mentions R. uniseriata, R. ctenophora, R. duplicata and R. maculata. Can you eliminate some of these? |
