I am not 100% sure, but I think I see they have only 1 sternopl. bristle. In this case it is M. platycephala.

It is funny that you say so, since after looking at the first photo after the first posting I believed it as well. Yet, if you look at photo nr 2 it actually looks like 1 bristle. Any way, as indicated, I was not very sure. The photo's do not show enough good details.

personally I'm more inclined towards Meiosimyza laeta/mihalyii though not certain from these pictures alone. |

Thank you ruud and Mark I think the safest bet would be to settle for Meiosimyza sp. It is not easy to identify from photos and sometimes it is not posible to get the right detail to help assist ID, at the time of shooting. Kind regards Peter www.imageinuk.com |

Laeta/mihalyii? Why do you think so? I do not agree. As far as I can see both antennae and palp are yellow. Mihalyii has at least part of the 3rd segment of the antenna and palp blackish. Laeta has yellow antennae and palp, but is a very small fly, I think much smaller than the ones on the photo. ruud van der weele rvanderweele@gmail.com |
