Hello all,

This is Ochthera mantis? Isn't it?

No, from the dusting pattern on the tergites, I'd say this is Ochthera manicata. Not absolutely certain because there is another similar species - O.palaearctica - which occurs in Denmark and France, so could be found in Belgium, and I have not seen material, so don't know how the pattern compares.

Thanks Tony,

I guess I urgently need a decent checklist for Belgian diptera because I wasn't aware of the other species.

Does anybody know where to get:

I have to admit that I was already wondering if Ochthera manicata is actually recorded from Belgium yet. It's not mentioned from Belgium on Fauna Europaea, but that doesn't mean it has not been recorded yet.
I will check the checklist tonight.

On the checklist of Belgium (1992) only Ochthera mantis is mentioned.
