Hello Forum, a rather small fly. By means of the gallery, I decided for Opomyza petrei. Is that correct? Not? What else? Hagen, NRW, Germany, 10. September 2010, near beech forest, 150msm, Best regards, Josef Josef Buecker attached the following image: ![]() [127.45Kb] |

Could be either Opomyza germinationis or G. petrei. Do you have other pictures with a better view on the abdomen?

It isn't my group, but I have to say that Mesnil didn't convinced me that petrei is a good species ![]() Anyway, without abdomen it is germinationis, because Linnaeus was almost 300 years earlier!

Besides the difference in colouration of the abdomen (which "can" be a bit tricky), there are differences in the genitalia and in the hairs on the proepisternum.

I concur. Most of the germinationis group I find, the markings on the abdomen are clear cut. One sometimes finds the odd specimen that is doubtful. There are very good genitalia illustrations in "Drake, C.M. 1993. A review of the British Opomyzidae" that soon resolve any doubts. |
