Today, my garden, Kapellen, Belgium. To me, it looks like the Hylemya vagans/urbica (det. Joke) I found a couple of weeks ago (at exactly the same place). Is it? Thanks in advance!

Sharper no, closer yes. I hope it is enough, if not, thanks for trying.

Fantastic! Thanks Joke! What is this difference in leg coloration between vagans and urbica?

Hylemya vagans has all tibia yellowish / yellow and H.urbica mostly only the hindtibia is yellowish. Then we have also H.variata, who has mostly all legs dark, but sometimes the tibia seems yellowish.....so can be very confusing, special in females. I mostly collect H.urbica (common) and only have a view male of H.variata So that's why i think it is H.urbica..... Joke Edited by javanerkelens on 03-09-2010 15:42 |

I think Hylemya vagans. The legs appear too dark in these images, and the body colour pattern is typical H. vagans. Verner |

I have two opposing opinions on this one. Inconclusive? |

If Verner is Verner Michelsen, I don't think Joke would oppose his verdict ![]() |
