Or am I being fooled? Yesterday 28. vii 2010 I caught this beauty on the outside of my kitchen window in Copenhagen. At a first glance I thought Tachina fera-ish, then working my way through the key I thought Smidtia conspersa... and then I started to get excited. The specimen is rather worn and lacks most of its bristles and hairs on the right side of the head but otherwise it is in mint condition. There are, however, two things that worries me a bit. The ad comb on t3 has a long bristle in the middle about twice the length of the short ones. According to the key Winthemia sp. shouldn't have this or at least it should be much shorter. How much is much? Is the fly in fact Timavia amoena? If W. bohemani is correct this species should have yellow tibiae. The specimen has yellow tibiae but they are very murky. Fantastic! Many thanks for confirming the species, Theo. What are the odds of ever again bagging one of those in a mostly urban environment? Is W. bohemani a parasitoid of strictly Sphingidae or is it more versatile? Regards, Walther |

Sphinx ligustri is not at all rare, especially in gardens etc. so I don't see there is a problem. STill, bohemani is a rare species. Theo |
