Hello all, This small fly was in my garden this morning. That is in Hasselt, Belgium, 27-07-2010. I thought at first it was micropezidae but it has these bristly femora which makes it something else. Who can help? Thanks! Don Micro attached the following image: ![]() [92.98Kb] Edited by Don Micro on 27-07-2010 15:39 Kim Windmolders |

No Micropezid, this is a Scathophagid - something like Norellia spinipes. |

or could this be Norellia tipularia? Wings look lighter than the spinipes I have seen. |

I got a bit deeper into that stuff. Is there really just one row of bristles on the fore tibiae? I cannot see it clearly on the upper pic. More rows would mean Norellisoma. As to Norellia spinipes and N. tipularia, they are said to be quite similar (http://www.dipter...d_id=14951), and the genitalia are decisive. Furthermore, they have different host plants: N. spinipes feeds on Narcissus and N. tipularia on Leucojum.

Thanks! ![]() Here a closer view on the fore tibia. Looks like there is only one row. Don Micro attached the following image: ![]() [87.86Kb] Edited by Don Micro on 27-07-2010 15:40 Kim Windmolders |
