Hi, we have an extraordinary season going on. I have never seen as much flies like this summer. Must be the heath or past winter with a lot of snow. I got 58 Tachinidae yesterday ( yes, in one day ) and here is one of them. Most were those small Siphonas that everyone loves This fly is a bit smaller that Tachina fera and I'm not sure if I have seen this before. Pretty sure - hairy eyes, projecting mouth edge, yellow basicosta all point to Linnaemya while the orange legs would be vulpina I don't think you have any other species up there with that combination. Of course, if it was darker with black legs then we'd have much more trouble - vulpina is the most distinctive species in that genus. They are also specialists on Heath.

Linnaemyia is a difficult genus and vulpina is the exception that illustrates the rule, as we say in dutch. Theo |
