Hi,
Here comes another attempt to get an Anthomyiid ID. I saw it yesterday on Cerastium. May be, Joke or another expert will have an idea...
Thanks, Sundew

I had to look for quit some time...because the setea on the mid and hindtibia are not good visible.
...... i think it is Pegoplata, but still, i have doubt
(because of the short /strong mentum of the proboscis)

You did your best with the photos, but for now i only can say an uncertain Pegoplata sp. Smile

Dear Joke,
here come the nicest middle and hind tibiae we have! The middle ones are quite smooth with only some very short bristles, the hind ones have more impressive bristles. What is your impression, does that speak in favour of Pegoplata?
Thanks for all your efforts,
Sundew

Last chance....awkward......Grin

I will try to explain, why it is so difficult to come to an genus or species.

1 - I think we can see 2pd on the hindtibia.
2 - There are some genus with 2pd on the hindtibia
3 - Adia, some Delia sp., Hydrophoria, Zaphne, Pegoplata, Emmesomyia, Eutrichota, Mycophaga, Paradelia and Pegomya
4 - Some of those species we can delete, because they have yellow legs or abdomen or other special characteristics.
5 - Left over: Adia + Some Delia sp. + Hydrophoria + Pegoplata and Pegomya

-Adia has 1av on the mid and hindtibia = is not visible on the photos

-Some Delia sp. should have 1-2 pv on the hindtibia = is not visible on the photos

- Hydrophoria should have the arista long haired = when i take a good look...they seems not to be long haired

- Pegoplata has 2pd+2ad almost on the same level on the hindtibia and 1 and sometimes 2 av on the mid and hindtibia (same problem as for Adia....)....= is not visible on the photos

- Pegomya is not likely, but there are some darker species, so I can't rule out the possibility.

Are there other characteristics to go further on.....?
Maybe the acrostichals (smal, broad, with some little hairs between the two rows).....
Just not good visible...we can see relative broad rows, but i can't see if there are little hairs between!

So......only on a "general jizz" feeling, i would say.... unsurtain Pegoplata!

Can you live with this answer....Grin

Dear Joke, you did such a great work - I feel really bad for having caused so much efforts! The comprehensive explanation alone is to be highly praised and shows how passionately you deal with these difficult anthos. Then enters Nikita and simply says "Adia.." Jizz versus checking all the more or less visible tricky leg bristles! And you give in. What a dramatic finish! The small grey fly would certainly be impressed by the international discussions it was the reason for.
As to me, I can only express my deep gratitude to both of you. And I draw once more the conclusion that hundred photos cannot replace a dead antho lying under a stereo microscope. Nevertheless the fly and I prefer the photos - would be impossible with analogue photography (2 films per fly leg Grin).
Best wishes,
a very grateful Sundew
