Clitheroe England, 21 May 2010.

This was doing territorial hovering under a tree. My guess is Fannia lustrator, but it's a wild one! Other suggestions?

I would agree with your wild guess Stephen, but I suggest you email Nikita for his opinion. He is brilliant at ID'ing Fannia in-flight shots. I arrived at this solution based on one of his images in the Gallery which impressed me so much I awarded it 5 stars....http://www.dipter...to_id=3186. Your image should be a doddle Wink.

My other suggestion would be for you to take up Plane or Helicopter Spotting.Wearing a bobble hat would be so becoming, and assist in the warming of your head during this cold spell of weather.

Regards Roger...would be Train Spotter and general Nerd.

Thanks Roger. I suspect Nikita cheated by catching the fly - most un-British!

Most of my ex-friends would be greatly relieved if I switched from fly-spotting to something more socially acceptable, like plane-spotting or serial homicide.

Fannia lustrator is OK. Hooked setae on coxa2 and I guess the vertical spine on ks.
Stephane.
