Hi,
Today I saw a big fly (1 cm at least) that, by habit, I thought to be Psila fimetaria, an old friend. However, when I saw the photos on the screen, I changed my mind. My fly is much hairier, and the bristle arrangement differs. However, it is also no Scathophaga and no Suillia. What can that be? Help, please!

Here is a comparison with Psila fimetaria. It really looked like one from some distance, but of course it is something different.

Dryomyzidae, I think Dryomyza flaveola (3d ant. joint is darkened, R1 seems bare).
Stephane.

Ah - I had seen this species once, and you had already identified these photos. They were done with my old pocket camera, however, and that fly looked much darker and smaller (but that may be due to insufficient magnification). Now I shall keep that species in mind forever - it is a quite impressive one!
Many thanks once again; your help is of enormous value indeed, dear Stephane.
Best wishes, Sundew

Nielsyese: Thank you; that small Raynox macrolens added to the camera lens does remarkably well. No expensive SLR needed Grin.
