Apologies for the dreadful photo, couldn't get anything better in the wind and sun. It doesn't quite match anything I've seen previously and I can get nowhere keying it, can't see enough detail, but perhaps one of the experts will recognise it? 13/5/2010; Devon, England thanks Tim tim worfolk attached the following image: ![]() [160.04Kb] Edited by tim worfolk on 15-05-2010 15:04 |

Looks a bit Meigenia-ish to me

That's interesting; I did an image search for Meigenia and came up with this - http://www.dipter...d_id=24476 - a fly I'd photographed last August, same site. If I see it again I'll try to catch it - it would be nice to know which species it is. thanks Tim |

If it is a Meigenia then it needs to be a male and we need to see genitalia

I agree, looks Meigenia-ish and given the English weather conditions, the pic is not that bad at all. However, we can't see the apical scutellar bristles, to confirm our hunch. Theo |

Brrrr - don't mention the British weather ... I just got used to 25C in Moscow - then I had to come home to 10C
