Hi all,

Wondering if either of these can be ided from these photos? First is (I think) a Phaonia from my garden in cambs earlier today, the second is a Bibio from RSPB The Lodge a week or so ago.

Hi Will and welcome to the forum.

Your top one looks like Phaonia subventa but I'm no expert and there's maybe not enough detail to be certain. The other looks like Bibio johannis, with the same caveats.

If I could make a couple of suggestions: it's best to put different flies in different posts - prevents confusion (usually), also, I always crop photos drastically to make best use of the limited image size.

Great pictures, I look forward to seeing more.

cheers

Tim

Hi Tim,

Many thanks for taking a look. I'll follow your advice and put different flies in different threads in future, and be more aggressive with the cropping!

Cheers

Will
