Hello!

Last week I was often annoyed by these midges at the forest (northwest Germany). I did not believe they were Simuliids, because they were rather large (~ 5 mm). But at last I could take this shot. Is this clearly a female Simuliidae?

Many thanks, Roger! There are many Ceratopogonidae here, but Simuliidae seem the be rather rare (perhaps luckily... Wink).
Best regards,
Jürgen

We get PLENTY of those here too. Once they start biting you just have to head indoors. Impossible to do anything outside. I haven't seen many Simulids here. Didn't know we had them here till I started photographing flies.
Here is a male I spotted on the outside of the Control Tower at the Airport at 21.24 Hrs Local.
