Incredible indeed (and yes, this is a long proboscis). The wing venation seems to be reduced, should be a good clue for an expert. Geron ? (not the expert, but the Bombyliidae). Sarah, what lense and flash did you use ? Theo |

Thanks to you too Theo. The lens is a Canon 60 mm macro, hand held, natural light. In my area, we should in theory have... Geron albidulus Geron gibbosus Geron halteralis Geron intonsus. Could it be one of those? Sarah |

i think Geron is correct (only 2 veins issuing from discal cell and long pointed 1st flagellomere). probably not halteratus as this one is white-haired (at least in southern spain). to go further requires a specimen and probably a male specimen. |
