Looks good to me T.nigrohirta is known from southern Germany but it should have darker hairs on the thorax ... it is also very rare so T.ursina is more likely

Yes, once they find a nice sunny place to sit they usually return to it They are a classic sign of Spring arriving but I wish they were a bit commoner

By the way, Chris, what is the host of this tachinid, I can't find in www? A carterpillar? Species? And: How old can it get (the imago)? |

The host of Tachina ursina is unknown. In tachinid times you can see here the note: "In Kerimäki, one specimen was sighted sitting on bare ground, but more than ten individuals were observed visiting the sap runs. The host is unknown." SOURCE: http://www.uoguel...s/TT20.pdf |
