March 18, Clitheroe England. I forgot to check the size, but around 3mm. Will confirm later.
EDIT: It is actually 4mm from the face to where I think the abdomen ends, around where the outer cross-vein is.

Oh, OK. I thought Heleomyzidae had convergent postverticals, and I couldn't see any spines on the costa. But I've never seen Sciomyzids at first hand, so I'm guessing wildly, in accordance with time-honoured tradition Grin

I'm guessing wildly too..Maybe if you cleaned the lense of that Cameraphone you insist on using then the spines on the costa would be visible. Wink Then again, maybe you are right and there are no spines.
If you must use a Cameraphone, can I suggest next one you buy will be a Samsung GX-20. I use it and can recommend it fully. Smile

Talking crap again....Roger
I don't have shares in Samsung.

I'm never going to hear the end of this if wrong....am I ?
Tephrochlamys ?....probably end up being a bloody Pherbellia awkwardFrown

How about Dryomyzidae? At least they are allowed to have divergent postverts. I must go and measure the size, but I'm sure it was too small for Tephrochlamys - and probably for any Sciomyzidae too. It won't feel so bad if we were both wrong Grin

Well Stephen using a Scattergun approach to ID'ing flies, one of us was bound to stumble upon the correct ID.
