Hylemya or Hydrophoria. I would guess Hylemya because I can't see hairs between the acrostichal bristles and I can't see the lower squama projecting. Hylemya urbica maybe? You are not talking rubbish Stephen R, as that is exactly the answer I would give. It would be easy if one had the specimen to hand. Unfortunately one can't see the acrostichals, disc of scutellum, lower calypter. Hylemya variata might be a good guess. |

In the enlarged photo the hind tibia look as if there is a trace of orange i.e. not entirely black.This points to Hylemya urbica male. It is either urbica or variata, I can't be certain. The genitalia of these two species are very different, so for a definite det you need the specimen |
