Hi,Smile
I found it feeding on Anthriscus sylvestris
on 8th June 2009, nature reserve, Gent, Belgium.
Any chance for a Genus and perhaps a specie?
Many thanks!

try to use the DI to upload the photo., The imageshack and similars have a great disadvantage: in a few weeks all photos from those providers will disappear.

Thanks Jorge for the advice.
I do realise the disadvantages and I really don't like using image hosters,
I started using them out of frustration after countless fruitless attempts to uploads pictures from my pc. Shock even when respecting the rules of filesize and filename..
I'll try once more..Angry

Erikas is right. And the fly is a male. This genus I never saw in the field.
Indeed, stratiomyids seems to be rare here. The most common being the cosmopolitan Hermetia illlucens.

Please note that when you attach an image in a reply that you will have to provide some text in the message field. Otherwise the post will not be accepted and you will be redirected to the current thread.
Some image editors save images with file headers that will be accepted in image editing programs but may be rejected by this Content Management System. Before an image is uploaded a check is performed to see if the extension of the file (e.g., .jpg) matches the file header. This is done to prevent malicious users from uploading a script masquerading as an image. Under some circumstances a JFIF header with a .jpg extension poses a problem. Generally it will work to open the image in another image editor and saving it again.
When you sent the images as attachments, perhaps gmail already performed a similar action with your images that allowed me to upload them.

Thank you Paul!
I had it only once I forgot to add a text, but all the other times I did and it still didn't work.
I think the problem could be that the file names of my pictures in whatever programme I save them have jpg in Capitals, like f.ex. fly.JPG, I do change them manually into .jpg with small letters before posting but it still doesn't work! I can see it does load the pictures but doesn't display them in the thread.
Whenever I look at properties of the pictures, in all programmes it still gives jpg in capitals.
Perhaps that is a VISTA thing..
Is there no test place I could practice without me occupying this thread and making me feel stupid? Frown

.jpg and .JPG extensions should both work. The file header (Exif or JFIF) can be seen when opening the image in a text editor.
You can exepriment whatever you like: You can delete your own post if you want. If might be a slight nuisance to those who asked to receive notifications of new posts in the thread, though.
