Hi,

I had a few of these 1.5mm flies on a plant in my pond for a few days before the arctic weather.

Does anyone know what they are? Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks Roger, I looked at Hydrellia cf. albilabris in the Gallery but thought the antennae were too light. I do have other pics from the same group where the antennae look more brown though, I wonder if that is variable in sexes or age?

You beat me to posting Stephane, thanks! If that is for certain I could perhaps add a pic to the gallery showing the face.

Body shiny black and white lunula (and face), it has to be this species, very unique...

Thank you Stephane!Smile

I have searched for it here, records only show a few locations further south than I am, so this is a good find.Grin
