 Did you really measure them (when dead )?

I think they are a little bit smaller, more like 15 mm.

IN any case, it is the female of Tabanus promesogaeus, better known by most people as T. bifarius (auct. nec Loew !!)

 SO, to be more clear, bifarius is best known as name but incorrect. Bifarius Loew is the species described in Chvala et al as tenuicornis.

 You are right Theo, I made an error, on five specimens the sizes are from 14 mm to 15 mm
