Hi,

As this looks a very interesting Cecidomyiidae I thought there could be a slim chance of at least a genus?Grin

Taken on 16th October on Ivy flowers, this was a little bigger than most from this family at 4-5mm I think. Near Lincoln UK.

2 pics.

Oh well, one can try!PfftGrin

I think these are some of the most delicate and beautiful flies, it's a real shame they are not studied more. Wink

I have pics of a beautiful 2mm long female stood on a tiny piece of cauliflower which was on my dinner plate. She was very graceful indeed!Cool

Well, You should start collecting. I also collect them but do not show them here, 'cause there's no hope Smile Important characters are wing, terminalia (male or female) and segments of antenna.

Write me some 2 weeks later and I'll send You a key for genera (do not have it yet). (send a PM).

Aaaah, it's good to see someone else taking an interest in them too! I think I will stick to taking pics of them though, I'm not good at taking specimens.Wink I have some very good detail of the one on my cauliflower, she remained there for a long time and I had to put her outside with the cauliflower!

I would like to have a key though as that might help, thank you, I will try to remember to PM you later.Smile
