Hi!

With these three 6-7 mm flies from last week at the forest border (northwest Germany) I'm not even sure to put into which family...

Hi Juergen.

1. Anthomyiidae, probably Hylemya (vagans or nigrimana)
2. Muscidae. Helina sp.?
3. Anthomyiidae. Probably Hylemya nigrimana

Difference between female of H.vagans and nigrimana is very difficult to make (both have mid and hind femora yellow and other characters are also very simular)
Male have visible difference.

Hi, Lars and Joke!

Thanks for IDs and explanations. I was not sure, whether to put these three into one species/genus. So they're even not in the same family. I still have to learn a lot... Frown

Jürgen

Maybe a little tip! Wink
When you are not sure if you have a Muscidae or Anthomyiidae, ....some females of Anthomyiidae have the frontal vitta orange and Muscidae has never!
(of course there are more flies with a yellow/red frontal vitta, but mostly when the fly is simulair to a Muscidae and with a red frontal vitta, you can be sure (98%) it is a Anthomyiidae)
