No idea, but it seems a second face with big shiny eyes. Look at this one (Nearctic, Bombyliidae) http://bugguide.n...19/bgimage , it has some like that in the scutellum, so it seems a Salticidae (Jumping spider?)

Hallo Horst!

Gute frage! Der Fliege ist ein Bremse, gattung Chrysops. Die Schwielen heissen calli (singular: callus). Ich glaube die sind nur region ohne haare oder puder.

Das Bild zeigt Chrysops relictus, hatte ich vergessen zu schreiben.
