Flies above 40?C...

An interesting question, I think:

In next days we will have temperatures above 40?C in center (more interior) of Portugal.... Which family flies are supposed to find to about 800 m altitude at 40? N latitude. And for about 1800 m?

Pretty much all families. You'll find most of them even in the alpine zone, above the tree limit. Here in the North Muscoidea (Muscidae, Anthomyiidae, Scathophagidae) are often very common at high altitudes, tachinidae and many small flies like agromyzidae are relatively less numerous.

Tried to attach an image to a forum post. jpg, 32kB, 72dpi, no blanks, ... File name is correctly displayed, but when I click "Preview Thread" it just vanishes. Help!
