Hello all. Can someone please identify the attached Helophilus? I photographed it last week in Co. Kildare, in Ireland, in a country garden.

Also, is it correct that all Helophilus larvae are aquatic, and do not eat aphids? I am working on a gardening book at the moment, and I would like to include this pic, but I don't want to mislead people regarding its usefulness.

In other words, would it be correct to say that this species is a lovely thing to have around, that it will pollinate your plants, but it won't eat your greenfly? (What does it eat? Midge larvae?)

Thanks in advance

I don't think my picture loaded. If not, it's up here:

Sorry for the confusion (I'm new to this forum).

Thanks, Andre. Can someone tell me what the larvae of these hoverflies eat?
