I would appreciate help with the identification of the fly photographed on 24 June on the southern coast of South Uist (NF744146), Western Isles. Sorry I don't have a size for you, as usual it was too windy to catch any specimens, but I think it was photographed on wild carrot. I understand that identification is not always possible from photographs, but I would appreciate any comments on a possible id. I think a male Chlropmyia formosa in this case is correct.

Thank you for the id confirmation. NBN gateway does not show this species in the Western Isles, however Waterston (1981) gives a record for South Uist as collected pre-1960 verified by the author. The lack of records is probably due to the absence of recording rather than scarcity. So thank you for your contributions in helping to update the database. CJ |
