Hello! Saw this one near the forest yesterday (northwest Germany). Not too small, well above 10 mm. What could it be? Does Protophormia terraenovae grow so large? In my opinion this is a male of Protocalliphora.

Hello, Stephane! Stephane Lebrun wrote: In my opinion this is a male of Protocalliphora. Thanks! It showed the same wing posture as this one, but I did not think, that a male of the same species could grow this bigger and look so different. But the size differences in Calliphoridae species often dazzle me... ![]() Best regards, Jürgen -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Juergen Peters Borgholzhausen, Germany WWW: http://insektenfo... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= |

I think there is a strong dimorphism between males and females. In previous threads you could find more explanations... Theo always said that with this deep blue it couldn't be a Protophormia ; the thoracic bristles are too conspicuous also for Protophormia, I guess some presut. acr. etc...
