Chen Young told me: "looks like species in the Tipula (Tipula) group. I don't know what species of T. (T.) are occurring in your area. It could be T. paludosa, T. oleracea, or other species."

Well it is not easy to be sure only with these photos. But probably it is a T. oleracea... but it is not certain.

I also think it is a Tipula (Tipula) sp. The ventral anal lobes (the lower) are quit rounded as in T. paludosa. In T. olereacea the ventral anal lobes are more or less pointed. Unfortunately there are some undescribed species in this subgenus, so you will never know for sure.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
