I know they are nigh-on impossible from photo's...but maybe the abdominal pattern of this one will ring a bell somewhere...

I've also added Chloropidae and Phoridae and some others that aren't listed..Same with Moths and Beetles. Will have to send them on to SEG so they can be updated (Sometime). Hi Roger, I found some of your threads dealing with fungus gnats, but cannot contribute more unfortunately. Well, identification from images are somewhat limited and often not that “easy” as the recent one here. Many of the important taxonomic characters cannot be investigated in this way. However, feel free to forward your unidentified pictures to me and/or even better send me specimens in alcohol for examination under the binocular. I would be glad having a look at. Cheers, xylo |

Hi xylo Thanks for looking at my old threads and the offer to examine specimens...Fortunately/unfortunately I don't collect specimens, only take photographs....should I have a change of mind on the subject of collecting, I shall keep your kind offer in mind. Might dig out some photo's though. Being a Shetlander, it would be frowned on to waste alcohol on flies though  .Regards Roger |
