May 2009 - South of France - 6mm  Hello, I think it can be Urophora cuspidata ou Urophora solstitialis but I am not able to find which species by myself. Can you help me ? Regards Vinz |

This can only be identified by the tip of the aculeus, which should be extracted.... So sorry, no better than that complex. John |

Judging from its very long oviscape plus the 2nd crossband somewhat s-like sinuate, 50% it is Urophora mauritanica Macquart that infests Carthamus flower heads. Otherwise, there is a 50% possibility of U. cuspidata Mg., which feeds on Centaurea scabiosa and related species of C. (Lopholoma) spp. And, John correctly notified that only the aculeus tip shape gives 100% ID.
