Hello forum,

Today I found this beautiful fly in the south of the Netherlands and I can't find it's ID. It looks a lot like a Terellia sp. but which one? Can somebody help me with this one?

Regards, Arno

Terellia sp. ex ruficauda aggr. At the moment, I am revising this group, which includes at least 2 similar but different species.

Hello Valery,

I don't know exactly what you mean with this. It looks like Terellia ruficauda but it is another species? I see little differences.
Thanks for your reply.Smile

In fact, "Terellia ruficauda" in its current sense consists of two different species throughout Europe: one on Cirsium arvense, another on C. palustre, C. canum, C. oleraceum and C. heterophillum; I am proposing to consider the first one as T. ruficauda proprio nomine, and this one as another already named Linnean species, but this whole taxonomical routine involves lectotypes designation, DNA barcoding, a lot of biometrics, very detailed mapping, etc. I have already treated also most of Amsterdam museum specimens and have quite a lot of Dutch localities.
