I wonder if someone can help identify this for me. The insect was photographed on a nettle leaf (veination gives idea of scale) near edge of a freshwater lake in southern England at the beginning of May.

Yes, this is Chironomidae Chironominae (Chironomini tribe most probably), but female, so ID is in most times impossible. |
