Hi, I'm a bit lost with this 7mm hairy fellow. I have not been concentrating too much to Syrphidae so any hint for genus? May 31.2009 Loviisa, Finland.

It is a Pipizella male. For identification, you need to have a good view on the genitalia. For that, you must pull it out a little. If you do that carefully, it can stay attached on the tip of the abdomen.

Thank's Andre. I'll refresh the creature and check the genitals.

You are lucky: there are not so many species known from Finland Wink

Hi, bad picture but clear enough. The most common viduata.

Would have been my guess too. Has also been our only Pipizella-species caught on our trip through Finland in 2003.
But you have to practise on your photography Pfft
