Hi,
Again I am uncertain about a small black Muscid. My guess is Hydrotaea, possibly H. ignava, but confirmation or correction would be fine. The first pics are from May, 2008, the second from this week. I hope both show the same species...
Thanks, Sundew

1st is male Fannia (note the flattened abdomen) - wait for Nikita.
2d is male Hebecnema nigra.

Great! Oh, these little black ones... I already had my doubts about the same species (and even genus), as the upcurving facial bristle of No 2 seemed to lack in No 1, but I'm not familiar with the distinguishing characters. So your help is unpayable!

Don't worry about the guarantee. As a hint, this name is very good for me!
Many thanks, Sundew

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
