Hi everyone !

I just wondered what happened to this Empididae when I saw it first time : thought some elephant had to crush its abdomen.

But since then, I met several other specimens with such curious abdomen apex, so I came to the conclusion they should be males exhibiting genitalia Wink

This one came to light, on 19th april 2009 in my garden, in Fragnes (Burgundy, France). It was av. 10 mm long.

This one should be some Empis, right ?
Is it possible to determine species ?

Thanks

Benoit
