Hello all,

First of all I hope I am in the good forum for this request.

A friend photographied that nest within a Eastern bluebird nest box in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada (near Vermont, USA).

It doesn't look as a hemynoptera nest but I think it is something created by diptera larvae. Am I wrong???

Any idea about which kind of insects (family/genus/species) built it???

Thank you,

Michel

Lepidoptera, Pyralidae, Galleriinae, Aphomia sociella or a related species

Thank you very much Tony!

I think you are rigjt! It can easily be a parasited bumblebee nest by a colony of Aphomia sp.

Aphomia sociella is not present in Quebec but a related species of the same genus could be the culprit.

Thanks alot!

Michel

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
