It's a tasting organ (though the concept of 'taste' in insects is probably completely different to the way we understand it in humans) I would guess that 'smelling' is most linked to the function of the antennae. It is also a useful feature to note when identifying some species  Nice photo BTW

they are very notably spoon-shaped in Lispe species, Muscidae |
