Hi,

I shot these two pics on 24th June '07 in northern Germany and would say that it is Cylindromyia auriceps - if I compare it with http://www.dipter...to_id=2012. Do you agree?

Thanks in advance

Hi Pierre and Gabor,

thanks and here is my equipment:

Canon EOS 350d
Sigma 180mm F3,5 EX DG APO MAKRO 1:1
Manfrotto tripod 190PROB
Manfrotto ball head 486RC2

and in this case additionally a 2 x Kenko teleconverter to get a higher reproduction scale than 1:1, but in the meantime I use a 1,7 x Soligor Teleconverter as the old one got stolen.

You can get a higher reproduction scale with spacer rings as well. I wouldn't say one thing is better than the other.

In the majority of cases I go out for a macro tour really early in the morning when the insects haven't reached their working temperature. Wink A set of small reflectors (http://www.amazon...B000NG97DW) is useful, too. And sometimes I use clothespins to stabilise the plants on which the insects rest (when it's a bit windy).

And now for something completely different - is this Cylindromyia auriceps on the pics? Wink

Greetings
Nele

You are perfectly correct with your ID, a male auriceps it is.
