Hi,
I suppose this one is to enlarge my Coenosia collection. However, the leg colour does not seem to match C. tigrina. Can you tell me more? (Habitat: my garden in June, as usual.)
Thanks, Sundew

This looks to have four sternopleural bristles, so unlikely to be Coenosiinae - I think its more likely to be a Helina species

I'm sorry - the thorax part in question is not well visible. Here are some enlarged pics; maybe, an expert's eye will see more.

With this combination of characters I think it could be Helina confinis.
Stephane.

The first pictures were enough to show that were present 2 anterior setae on katepisternum, and if there are 2 anterior, there are also 2 posterior ones (combination in Helina is either 1+2 or 2+2 ant+post ks setae). Wink
Coenosia have only 3 ks setae, which are equidistant to each others (arranged in an inverted equilateral triangle).
Stephane.

That's higher maths... I've read about Coenosia's bristle triangle meanwhile and shall focus my camera macrolens on the katepisternum in future (if the fly is willing) Grin
Many thanks, Stephane.
