Hi, this is a rather distinct Chironomid female. What subfamily could it belong to? It does not look like the common ones. Forest, by brook, NE Hungary, November 2007.

Are you sure that this is a Chironomid? To me it does not look like one. Maybe a largish female Ceratopogonid?

Same image, from closer. I have a specimen but it's badly damaged  In 2007 it was the very beginning of collecting insects for me and they vere not preserved well (this was half eaten by Liposcelis barkloeses) I can make images of head, and wing venation. Nowadays I put nematocera in alcohol to avoid damage

I think this is Cecidomyiidae - possibly Cecidomyia
