Some pics of a fruit fly taken yesterday- originals taken at 4:1 with an odd "appendage" apparently attached.
Any ideas what it is ?

Thanks Smile Interesting - did look like there may be some more bits on the other side of the fly- non pathgogenic fungus.

Hello,

A single one, on a seta ?
Most of the time, one sees a real layer, like a carpet.

Thanks for the confirmation Kahis Smile

Pierre- certainly no carpet but there appear to be a few others rather OOF in the first pic mainly on the legs. Have to admit I didn't notice them until I was processing the pics (the viewfinder is a bit dim at 4:1 magnification) . I think the one in focus was attached to the upper leg.

I've seen rather many specimens of Drosophila subobscura with laboulbs. Some specimens have a real layer, while others only have a few isolated ones. There is a lot of variation.
